Tomorrow night, the Big East Tournament will be underway with two great games to kick off the action at the world’s most famous arena, and the nor’easter won’t be the only storm in town. I’ll be here all week, folks.
Who: (8) Georgetown Hoyas (15-14 Overall, 5-13 BE) vs. (9) St. John’s Red Storm (15-16 Overall, 4-14 BE)
When: Tomorrow at 7 p.m. (FS1)
Previous Meetings: (1/9) Georgetown 69-66, (1/20) Georgetown 93-89
Key Players: G Shamorie Ponds (SJU), C Jessie Govan (GT)
Prediction: Shamorie Ponds has missed the last two games due to an abdominal injury. Marcus Derrickson missed the last game for Georgetown due to a right ankle injury. I’m assuming they’re being held out for precautionary reasons, and both will play tomorrow. The Hoyas big-men will give St. John’s fits, but not enough to get their third victory over the Johnnies. When the stage is bigger, so is Shamorie Ponds who carries them to victory. The Red Storm win 83-78.
Fans Prediction: In a unanimous decision, the followers of @BEB_BREAKDOWN have also picked St. John’s to defeat Georgetown.
Who: (7) Marquette Golden Eagles (18-12 Overall, 9-9 BE) vs. (10) DePaul Blue Demons 11-19 Overall, 4-14 BE)
When: Tomorrow at 9:30 p.m. (FS1)
Previous Meetings: (1/15) Marquette 70-52, (2/24) DePaul 70-62
Key Players: G Markus Howard (MU), G Max Strus (DPU)
Prediction: Don’t let DePaul’s record fool you. Just because they’re 4-14 in the Big East (11-19 overall), doesn’t mean they won’t pose a threat to Marquette. This DePaul team only lost to Xavier by three to close out the season, and beat Marquette in their last meeting 70-62. While the Blue Demons have a size advantage, the Golden Eagles shoot 41% from three, and that will be too much for DePaul to handle. Marquette wins 85-75.
Fans Prediction: In another unanimous vote, the followers of @BEB_BREAKDOWN have picked Marquette to defeat DePaul.
