As the month of August winds down and another summer without college basketball comes to a close, the excitement begins to build as another year of close competition in the Big East Conference looms. Thursday nights session of the Big East Tournament quarterfinal round featured two marquee matchups in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden . The first matchup was between Villanova and Marquette, a game in which the Wildcats dominated the Golden Eagles. The second matchup was between Seton Hall and Butler, a game that came down to the wire as Butler held off Seton Hall.

Day one of the Big East Tournament brought bad weather, but great basketball. The first game was between old-time rivals, as the St. John’s Red Storm took on the Georgetown Hoyas, followed by Marquette vs. DePaul in a game that went down to the wire.
